BUILDING BETTER BOARDS THROUGH STRATEGIC GOVERNANCE
Board governance is an ongoing and dynamic process. This workshop is designed to help boards develop strategic leadership for the agencies they govern. It is designed for both new and experienced board members and senior staff members. It covers the why, what, who and how of effective non-profit governance. Appropriate roles and responsibilities for strategic thinking boards and characteristics of effective and accountable organizations will also be presented. The board building cycle and the importance of the Board Development Committee will be explored.

BOARD MEETINGS THAT WORK
Volunteer boards must structure their board meetings to focus on the right things if they are to address issues, demonstrate leadership and govern effectively. This workshop outlines factors involved in successful board meetings beginning with group dynamics, and including consent agendas, dashboard indicators, facilitation and participation skills, dealing with problem behaviors, electronic meetings and evaluation tools.

STRATEGIC PLANNING
Strategic planning is a management tool, a proactive problem solving process and a direction finding vehicle for organizations in relation to the environment. This workshop will help you understand the process, learn the language and assess your organization's readiness. Sample forms and questionnaires, hands-on experience and an interactive format are hallmarks of this workshop. Suggestions for assessing whether or not to use a consultant will also be included.

TEAM BUILDING
This workshop will examine techniques to help motivate and manage people, outline the differences between a team and a group and provide tips for building a team and developing leadership within the team.


DEVELOPING AND MANAGING VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS
A creative and well managed volunteer program can help your nonprofit make better use of limited resources and increase your visibility. In this workshop, you will learn how to design jobs that will extend and enhance the work of your organization. This workshop will outline the steps necessary for a successful volunteer program taking into account the changing nature of volunteerism which utilizes minorities, teens, older adults, baby boomers and the sandwich generation all with different needs and expectations. Key findings of the recently released survey VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT CAPACITY IN AMERICA'S CHARITIES AND CONGREGATIONS will be highlighted.

PROGRAM DESIGN & EVALUATION — LOGIC MODEL
Logic models are a concise and graphic means for documenting and cataloging the relationships among available resources (INPUTS), planned activities (OUTPUTS), and the results (OUTCOMES) you expect to achieve. Participants will receive samples and examples of logic models and learn how to use them for grant writing, program planning, monitoring and/or evaluation. The basics of outcome based evaluation and its connection to logic models will also be covered.

Interactive lecture/discussion using visuals, small group discussion, best practices examples, handouts, samples, worksheets and resource lists.
